I knew about Spain and the bull fights long before this movie. It’s been one spains traditions and has been since the 18th century, but i believe that the popularity of bullfights has been going down and the movie was to bring attention to bullfighting.

Did you read the original book? It's base off a reall bull.

Bulls in a bullfight don't "win", and it's actually worse. It has been phasing out for at least a couple decades. One interesting alternative that has come up is a style where they use acrobatics to avoid the bull, instead of fighting it.
