@johnoproper: Did you get your wisdom teeth removed? I’m sure there are many who have and deal with zero TMJ issues; however, there are too many people reporting this to ignore looking into it. Also I’m weird and wish I had all of my teeth. #tmj #wisdomteeth #wisdomteethremoval #palateexpander #hypermobility
This is interesting. Unfortunately in my case this is a no. I started developing my most chronic TMJ disorder pain when I was 11-12 yo. I had my wisdom teeth removed at age 18 (all 4) they were in trapped under my molars pushing my teeth forward causing crowding. I just at the beginning of this year found out I have HEDS 😅 TMJD is a very very common condition involved with HEDS

I had a lot of pressure in my face before getting my wisdom teeth removed. After the surgery I felt better. Fast forward a few years later, I am experiencing more TMJ pain…I saw you posted about sleep study and I am thinking this is my next step.

I still have all 4 wisdom teeth, all came in straight and I’ve never been told to get them removed. I have awful tmj where I can’t sit my mouth correctly. It’s painful daily and I struggle a lot.

The biggest thing I had to learn during my journey will all of this is that we have to advocate for ourselves!! TMJ isn’t understood nearly enough.

I’ve definitely always grinded my teeth. I got braces as a child and while I do believe my palate was always small I think braces didn’t help that much. I didn’t know it until diving into why I’m experiencing tmj but I’ve also always had a deviated septum and now I know I have a septal spur as well to that. I do have a recessed jaw that I also didn’t realize I had until tmj pain, I do believe this may be because of the deviated septum. Despite all that I got my wisdom teeth out at 22. I didn’t want to get my wisdom teeth out, just because I was scared of the surgery but both of my bottom teeth were impacted and caused jaw pain. That was the first time I experienced any kind of pain. After that surgery the healing time period was fine no pain other than post op pain. 4 months later I got a random shooting nerve like pain up my head with episodes that were like vertigo. These specific episodes only happened three times and it’s been a year since removing my wisdom teeth. After that first episode of nerve pain my tmj pain has become horrid and I honestly am so confused what really is causing my issues. I don’t really wake up from not being able to breathe but it is difficult to breathe through my nose and I definitely mouth breathe. I bought the nose tape that helps open ur airway which help for a little bit I’m still struggling. All I know is this did all kick off 4 months after removing my wisdom teeth. I’m wondering if the structural change/trauma to my jaw just caused this perfect storm of an issue to make itself known. Not sure though.

Hi, I’m from the Philippines. I actually had a similar experience. After I had my right wisdom tooth removed, I developed vertigo, tinnitus, and clicking on the right side of my jaw. I went to an ENT doctor, and they said it might be Meniere’s disease and advised me to reduce my coffee and sodium intake.
I also wore a splint for about four months, and now I only have braces to correct my teeth alignment because of my TMJ problem. Fortunately, I haven’t experienced vertigo for almost three months now, but I still have jaw clicking and tinnitus.
I’m not really sure what helped me the most. I’ve been massaging my jaw every night, keeping my teeth slightly apart when I’m awake to help relax my jaw, and practicing chewing food on both the left and right sides of my mouth.

I still have my wisdom teeth and I’ve had TMJ for nearly all of my adult life. I did have one tooth extracted a couple years ago but I had TMJ long before that

I have jaw tightness, teeth grinding, clicking, (everything but ear ringing) and just for data purposes, I haven’t had my wisdom teeth removed, but I am hyper mobile, and I’ve been grinding my teeth at night since childhood😭

I just got my wisdom teeth removed and haven’t been able to pop my jaw and it HURTS. I used to have to pop my jaw several times a day to keep it from hurting but now with my jaw still being sore and me kind of having “lock jaw” in a way, I can’t open my mouth wide enough to be able to pop my jaw which has caused the hinges to be in so much discomfort

I had wisdom teeth removal that resulted in necrotic tissue due to poor surgical technique! I needed to remove the infection left in the cavitation with additional surgery. This helped so much with pain and facial swelling!
