@caitvi__rants: So I actually thought about this ages ago when I got the art book, but I never really talked about it or posted it. The reason why I asked for credits if someone uses this idea is because I have not seen it mentioned before (and it’s kinda just respectful yk). . . . . . . . . . . There’s historical real world precedent for this sort of thing! Ruffs in the Elizabethan age, decorative cravats with expensive brooches/pins — they’re status symbols bc 1) you need extra fabric to produce them and if you cannot afford extra fabric, you cannot make them and 2) they’re not practical, they’re decorative and if you have the extra money to buy more fabric to make alterations to a standard garment pattern/add a new accessory, you’re probably wealthy

It also resembles when lions have manes, to protect themselves from other animals, this keep them safe which shows piltoverians fear of zaunites, they view them as dangerous but the zaunites, who arguably need more protection, are careless to it because they don’t value their life as much

Idk if that makes sense, it's just my additional analysis; but I think this symbolism works not only because high collars are associated with wealth and elegance in general, but also because the neck is a very vulnerable part of the body. For example, canine animals usually have more skin/fur on their necks to protect them for that reason, and when showing submission, for example, to another pack member, they may show it (or their belly). This makes sense for Mel, because she doesn't consider herself "a wolf" like her mother so despite being upper class, she doesn't have a literal collar like the rest of the characters. In contrast most Zaun characters have completely bare necks because they are constantly being exposed and exploited: to poor living conditions, to poverty, to shimmer, the gas, and so on which is terrible and puts them in danger. Just the same way having ur neck exposed can get you easily killed because of the arteries in it. Anyways good work!!! sorry for yapping my shit

smth I noticed too while I was rewatching the show was that the first time we here VI’s full name (violet) is when she left powder. Powder said “violet, don’t leave me.” The last time we ever heard violet again is when cait said “are you still in this fight, violet?” I’m pretty sure that has some correlation to it but I don’t know what… so someone pls help me, I wanna be helpful in this fandom too

Honestly when i noticed it, i thought it was a modesty difference between piltover and zaun. How piltover’s people value their image and how they represent themselves and their families. BUT THIS THEORY MAKES SM MORE SENSE

I really like this cuz high collars have been a sign of wealth for years irl so I loved that they incorporated that and many other aspects like u can notice how the wealthy clothes all have strong colored clothes with many layers and ruffled designs as well

i noticed this too!! the way i interpreted it as the kirammans sort of being outcasts amongst piltovian society depsite being a high house (eg marcus’ line ‘she’s a kiramman, she’s just like the rest of them’). the fact they dont concede with fashion standards of the upper class singles them out. but when caitlyn is being effectively controlled and manipulated by ambessa, ambessa places the cape with the high collar on her; effectively accepting and welcoming her into the rest of the higher class piltovians who she used to be so seperated from. by the end of the show, she wears a turtleneck. im not gonna lie i kinda forgot the symbolism behind this but i think its something like thats now her own personal style, and shes accepted that its different to the rest
