Of course, it is hardly surprising that every character eventually becomes a victim of misinterpretation. No matter who they are or what fandom they belong to, there will always be people who reduce them to something they never were and were never meant to be. But out of all the characters I have seen misunderstood, Glisten is the one that hurts me the most. Perhaps because he means so much to me. Because I see so much of myself in him, and the way people overlook his true personality, his efforts, and his kindness feels painfully similar to what happens to me. I want people to notice my efforts. I want them to understand me. And I want the same for Glisten. I am so tired of seeing him turned into a walking object of sxualization. Tired of watching people throw away everything that makes him who he is and replace it with a version they find more "cool" or "attractive." They always give him tons of makeup, make him act like a stereotypical gay man, and—oh my God—turn him into a walking machine of flirting and seducing every living thing in sight. They add unnecessary sass or txicity to his character, even though Glisten is far from the only character in the game who wears makeup or shows strong emotions. Yet somehow, everything about him gets exaggerated to an unbearable extreme. Glisten strives to be perfect in everything he does, not because he is a narcissist. He wants people to like him. He wants to feel needed, appreciated, and interesting. He is not rude, and even when people push him to his limits, he does not cross their boundaries the way fan interpretations often portray him. And he certainly is not trying to seduce anyone, for God's sake. He helps others, listens to them, and wants others to see that he is trying his best to support those around him. But his real personality is constantly buried beneath layers of headcanons that contradict everything he actually is. Yes, I know people are free to create whatever headcanons they want. No one can stop them. But there comes a point where so little of the original character remains that you cannot help but wonder: do they really love Glisten, or do they simply love a distorted version wearing his face? Because sometimes it feels as though the character I grew attached to has disappeared completely, drowned beneath countless warped versions of himself. And what hurts the most is not that people see him differently. What hurts the most is that many of them do not seem interested in seeing him at all.
