Most people don’t realize that balance is a skill. And like any skill, it can be trained. Can you stand on one foot for more than 30 seconds? If not, let’s build your balance from the ground up. Start with calf raises. Your calves play a huge role in balance, stability, and walking mechanics. Do regular calf raises, relevé calf raises to hit the inner calf, and pigeon toe calf raises to target the outer calf. Then strengthen the muscles that keep you stable: • 10 front leg raises for the hip flexors • 10 lateral leg raises for the glute medius • 10 kickbacks for the glute max Now strengthen your legs with movements like the yoga lunge, chair pose, and horse stance. After that, practice the assisted single leg RDL. This movement challenges your glutes, hamstrings, feet, hips, and coordination all at once. Because balance isn’t just balance. It’s strength, stability, and control working together. Finally, practice standing on one foot while holding onto a counter or wall for assistance. Set a timer and slowly reduce the amount of support you use. 30 seconds is the goal. And if you can do it with your eyes closed… that’s the real challenge.
