This reminds me. I used to LOVE spicy food, like crazy spicy stuff. When I quit smoking cigarettes my tolerance and cravings for spicy food tanked almost immediately. I can’t handle anything hotter than crystal hot sauce now and it’s been 7 years since my last cigarette.

I bite my finger nails at 29 years old. My mom tried everything growing up but I just couldn’t stop. One thing she tried was “stop bite” which has the most bitter compound known to man. I eventually started to like the taste…I’m addicted to caffeine and vaping ha.

i love bitter foods 😭 expresso coffee, dark chocolate, aspargus, brussel sprouts, sauerkraut, beer (especially stout)... and i am a smoker for more than a decade 😭 i am curious about citric/acidic foods which i also love, also spicy food!

Interesting. When I was younger I vaped a lot but quit very easily, never felt truly “addicted”, and I have always been really sensitive to bitter foods.

I did my PhD on this, taste buds degrade over time specially in unhealthy and inactive individuals. We found that was the explanation why some people did not find bitterness as horrible as let's say healthy and young people.
