🏳️‍🌈Today officially marks 11 years since I was shunned by my family and an entire religion for being gay. On this day, 11 years ago, I boarded a plane with a backpack, $600, and no certainty about what would come next. I left behind everything familiar and surrendered completely to the unknown. I was told I couldn’t do it. I was told I wouldn’t make it without them. But I did more than survive. I built a life. The journey wasn’t easy. For a long time, I carried shame. I hated myself for being gay. I hated myself for walking away from so much. The path back to wholeness, self-acceptance, and self-love took years. Today, for the first time in my life, I genuinely do not hate myself for being gay. I stand here with my arms open to the world, walking in my truth, with an open heart that is ready to receive all the love this Universe has to offer. I have everything I need within me. If you are struggling with family loss, shame, rejection, or self-hatred, I want you to remember this: You are not your mistakes. You are not your behavior. You are not defined by another person’s approval. When someone rejects or abandons you, they are seeing you through the lens of their own beliefs, fears, experiences, and limitations. They are not seeing the entirety of who you are. They cannot fully see you while looking through those filters. And it is not your job to convince them. Take a breath. Loosen your shoulders. Remember that you are already whole. Someone else’s inability to recognize your wholeness does not make you any less whole. You are loved. You are seen. You are known. And you belong here. #shunned #exjw #grief #spiritual #pridemonth
