@juststartusa: I understand that not every person who enters this country illegally is a bad person. Many are seeking a better life, safety, or opportunity for themselves and their families. But good intentions do not erase the fact that a law was broken. We cannot pick and choose which laws matter based on someone’s reason for breaking them. In fact, if someone truly wants to build a better life in America, the legal immigration process exists for that purpose. Coming legally allows people to work, contribute, and build a future while respecting the laws of the nation they wish to call home. Every country has borders. Every country has laws. Compassion and law enforcement are not opposites they can exist together. We can care about people while also expecting them to follow the law. We can support legal immigration while opposing illegal immigration. And we can acknowledge a simple truth, every life lost because our laws were ignored is one life too many.
