Every doctor said my air hunger was “just anxiety” Even my close friends and family … But deep down, I knew something else was going on, I knew this wasn’t just anxiety The constant urge to take a deep breath, yawning, chest tightness, the feeling of never quite getting relief when I breathed, even when sitting still. My breathing felt so uncomfortable, yet every medical test came back “normal”. That was one of the most frustrating parts, how can my breathing feel so uncomfortable, so consuming, and still be told everything looks fine? What I eventually learned changed EVERYTHING Air hunger was not a sign that I needed more air. It was a sign that I was breathing too much, too often, and inefficiently. My breathing pattern had become fast, upper chest dominant, and I wasn’t using my diaphragm to breathe. And the more I chased big breaths, the more trapped I became in the dysfunctional breathing cycle. When I finally understood that this was a breathing pattern disorder (and that it was treatable!!) everything began to shift. I retrained me breathing pattern, which involved switching from upper chest breathing -> diaphragmatic breathing, fast breathing -> to slow breathing, large volume breathing -> low volume breathing, manual breathing -> automatic breathing. With the right breathing retraining, my breathing became calmer and automatic again. No more chasing a satisfying breath. No more feeling trapped inside every inhale. No more constantly thinking about breathing!! Now I help others do the same every day 🤍 If this sounds like you, DM me ‘BREATHE’ and I’ll send you my free breathing guide to help you retrain your breathing pattern and start breathing with more ease and confidence again 💌 #airhunger #breathingpatterndisorder #dysfunctionalbreathing #breathingphysio #breathingretraining
