@muddlethroughmummy: Recently I spoke on BBC Radio about having a panic attack and the wider conversation around mum burnout. When the story was shared online, the comments came flooding in. And proved exactly why so many women stay quiet. Not because they're looking for sympathy, but because they're afraid of being judged for struggling. The irony is that this isn’t even about me. Research shows that 93% of mothers have experienced some level of parental burnout. So if this conversation resonates with so many women, the problem isn't individual mums failing to cope, it's that the expectations placed on mothers have become unsustainable. What struck me most was how many comments came from people insisting that parents today have it easy. I don't think this is a competition! Every generation has faced challenges that the next one won't fully understand. Our parents may have dealt with pressures that seem unimaginable to us. But many families today are facing their own realities: two incomes are often essential, childcare is expensive, grandparents are working longer, and we're trying to juggle careers, parenting, relationships, household responsibilities, health and everything else life throws at us. Acknowledging that modern motherhood can be overwhelming isn't saying previous generations had it easier. It's saying that support matters because burnout doesn't care how old you are, what generation you're from, or whether someone else thinks they had it harder. Maybe instead of comparing struggles, we could make it easier for people to say, "I'm not coping very well right now" without fear of being torn apart for it. Because if 93% of mothers have experienced burnout, this isn't about one mum having a bad day. It's a conversation we should all be having. #tiredmum #mumlife #anxiety #burnout #mentalload

Wow those comments are so harsh!
Everyone out there deserves to air there feelings and how hard they are finding things! hiding those feelings only hurts the person feeling them!
Lets all be there for those that need our time and attention! 🥰
Your doing an amazing job in all you do, from motherhood to your work! 😊 x

You are amazing, I type this on the edge of burn out, the state of disassociation become more regular, hiding in my room the ever growing safe space I need, doing it in a way that no one else notices, because voicing it seems scarier than any of the negative self detrimental behaviour, vulnerability being labelled as failure. To remain strong when all we want is to be seen and supported ❤️I see you 🥰

I literally had a panic attack the other week over this exact reason! My job is for a global company and the culture is ‘always on’ and I felt like I just couldn’t keep going like this anymore. I never stop working and feel like I never get to see my daughter and the time I do see her I’m exhausted! I feel like our generation is set up to fail! Thank you for speaking up! 👏🏼

Just keyboard warriors! I fully understand and relate to you, a mum, wife, teacher, trying to juggle everything is physically and mentally exhausted and sometimes we just need to catch a breath x

Sorry you had some crappy comments lovely. The fact is, you probably helped a lot more people than those keyboard warriors that left stupid comments, which matters so much more. Talking about mental health is so important xx

Daisy I ignored these symptoms as a teacher and ended up having a breakdown. Unable to get out of bed at all. I thought that happened to ‘other people’. Shame on anybody mocking you. I’ve set up ‘The Emotional Literacy Hub’ on fb and inst - anyone struggling please do follow along. Silent follower usually but I had to reply. You are worth taking such good care of, Daisy 🌼

I’m so sorry that you received those comments. You are a wonderful mum. But thank you for speaking up about it. Thank you for being the advocate for us all too ❤️The mental load, physical load. I empathise with you, I feel if I dare complain that I’m tired or need help or even ask for help, (I have a 6 month old) I feel I am judged and received comments such as the following “ you can’t handle parenthood”, “I don’t think shouldn’t have another child if you need help with one ”, “you wanted the child so it’s your own fault” . I don’t have a village, my family is hours away. I will always do my best and always do what I can. And I feel so guilty for asking for help or for even saying I’m tired. I don’t want to change my life for the world, I am so blessed to have my baby. Daisy, I hope you feel better soon and are getting the support you need. 🩷🩷
