John helped me move house back in April. I only asked him if he knew anyone with a van, and within 20 minutes he was outside mine in a Luton with a tail lift, a packet of cable ties and the confidence of a man who’s reversed into tighter spaces than that before breakfast. He didn’t just move the boxes either. He labelled them, stacked them by room, plumbed the washing machine in, told me which wall was definitely load-bearing, and somehow found the kettle before I’d even unpacked it. At one point I caught him carrying a fridge freezer on his own while giving me financial advice about fixed-rate mortgages. Wouldn’t take a penny. Just said, “Get me a sausage roll next time you’re passing Greggs.” Absolute legend. John’s the kind of bloke who turns up to help for an hour and leaves having rewired the garage, sorted the council tax and made friends with the dog 🥹

Big John was manager of the Condor Club in San Francisco back in 1974, he also was an extra in the TV series Streets of San Francisco. Karl Malden once told be that Big John was close friend of his after the series ended.
