It’s because the moment we’re handed that DD214 we experience multiple types of loss all at once. All of our friends are gone, we no longer have a job and in most cases a home if you lived on post. We lose the camaraderie that we don’t have in the civilian world.. we go out into the civilian world and trust the people around us just to be done dirty because we could do that with fellow soldiers.
