Janea Carter (Coach JC) :
How do you handle when they have canceled or locked the card

I had my first EXTREMELY last minute booking today with a customer who reached out this morning, asking for the backyard movie package FOR TONIGHT. After several hours of back and forth, they ended up renting the projector package, 8 sleepover tents, cotton candy machine, snow cone machine, and popcorn maker… All with 25 servings each. I ran around like a crazy person pulling the order together to also get it delivered (they paid extra for delivery/pick-up) by a certain time, but I didn’t know how to charge for the last-minute booking. I was able to secure the rental contract being signed as well as deposit and rental invoice paid, but I did not charge for the same day booking as I couldn’t decide how to calculate that. Can you share details on that piece, please?

How do you ask to keep their card on file, especially when communicating through Facebook? I just had an issue with a recent renter and luckily they paid for missing items via Venmo but I know that’s not always how it will go. I recently started using invoices on square where the customer can save their card on file but it’s up to them to do that.

When a tray of food I had catered was not edible I took a picture and sent it during the party and was refunded. Saying something after the fact doesn’t fly.

We just recently started our business and we are using Stripe for our payments. You said you store the cards on file so you can then charge for the damages. I’ve been looking around and trying to research, how do you store the credit cards on file so you can then charge for damages?

How do you charge if someone misplaces something you can’t find a single replacement for? For example, a coin for connect 4 or a skee ball ball where you can’t buy replacement items just a whole new item?

What if they break one thing? We had the slider part on the connect 4 break and it’s so silly to have to buy a whole new one! I feel bad charging them $100 for a new one when it was just one thing!

how did you come up with the verbiage for your rental contract? is there an online service that you can use to write the contract, or did you have an attorney write it?

We noticed the same thing especially early on when we started out but we were new and didn’t really know how to handle it without the experience and didn’t want to risk a bad review so we basically ate it. It’s happened a few times but now that we are more established in our area and have partnerships with the city we no longer put up with it and keep security deposits or charge a damage fee. I’ve also had a lot of stuff fall through the cracks when first inspecting we didn’t really know what to look for and it ended up costing us some repairs without charges but now we know exactly what to look for and do.

How much are you charging for the deposits? Not the exact dollar amount, but is it the price of items being rented? Or a flat rate?

I'm new to this rental business this year, thank you! you are the one who inspired me to go fir it 🥰 I did take your advice and I have that same thing in my contract protecting me and thank goodness I did because I had 3 chairs come back broke and unfortunately I had to charge her because I ain't rich and I can't take the loss. I'm not a confrontational person it was very uncomfortable but I kept it very Business and Professional. she was not happy she said she was going to give me a bad Google review which bothers me but I know this is unfortunatley the way it might go

Check everything in all the way down to the tiny details. I returned some equipment and did a video on this, where it looked like they chewed on the golf balls! 🤣 Get deposits and stick to your quality control processes!

I’m curious what security deposit you charge for the snowcone machine? I’m nervous about the more expensive machines being broken.

I just had a message on return day and I didn’t know how to respond. I told him not to worry about it, but this was the first time it ever went out. 🤦‍♀️now I’m stuck figuring out what to do.

my greatest fear is bad customers in any business, yet with a great legal contract I guess you're covered? I suppose everyone deals with this and shouldn't stop people from being entrepreneurs

How particular on you on tables? Had a fairly new one come back today with a deep dent in it. Did not notice it until I was cleaning them and checking them in. I know the diy part of it opens up the transporting situation but what do you let go and what do you charge for ?

Thank you for making this video! The nerf inflatables pop so easily and I’m tempted to find alternative barriers instead of replacing them. Have you ever tried those? Or anyone reading this?

question, important, please answer if possible. i had a customer rent cornhole, weather in Mi was scattered pop up storms, for the day she picked up, which was changed 3xs by her. i explained to becareful of the rain the cornhole cant not be left outside even overnight as dew can ruin boards. i use your contract which she signed, the bags came back drenched, filthy, they are American bags red white and blue . also the connect 4 pueces are filthy as well dirty and covered in wet grass and mud. obviously played after the rain. what should i charge gor the cleaning of 42 connect 4 pieces plus not sure on bags till they dry. both games going out Friday
