@dustythunder_: The one with the STRANGE MAN that wants to FLY HIS NIECE OUT… 😳 “I warned my niece about letting a guy “fly her out” and some of my family think I should keep my mouth shut” #storytime #reddit_tiktok #redditstorytime #redditstories #part1
Here’s maybe a hot take: I don’t think it’s “unsolicited” advice when it is legitimately potentially saving someone someone’s life.

As the mother of a beautiful seventeen year old girl, I am shocked that any parent would be okay with this situation.

I met my partner online, but we FaceTimed each other’s families and friends before ever meeting in person. And the first in person meeting he came to me. I had my own transportation and way out if something was not up to par. And of course background checks. Safety first. Always

I met my husband online when we were on our low/mid twenties and it was long distance. For our first in person meeting, my parents planned a short family vacation to a landmark they wanted to visit that was a bit over halfway to where he was from. I honestly wasn't sure if he'd show up as planned or not.. but he was waiting in the hotel parking lot when we pulled in. Granted, first IRL meetings are weird enough... having your parents watching from a few parking spaces away was even more weird.
but it was safe. I even had a curfew to get back to their hotel room by, which I hated at the time. But the 4 of us did some touristy things together in that area over the next few days.
That was close to 15 years ago now

My child’s safety is first and foremost in my mind and heart. This does not sound like a safe solo adventure.

If he’s legitimately a good guy , who has her best interests at heart and loves her, he’d do whatever to ensure her that she is safe and ease her family’s very real concerns.

I met my husband online in the infancy of AOL and it was long distance. I did all kinds of sleuthing before meeting after months of talking. We’ve been together 30 years. If it were nowadays, I would be a lot more suspicious of people online. A lot has changed since then. I would be really concerned like OP.
