I have always struggled to find a thimble because my finger are very slim and short. To make it easy to imagine, when I search for rings, usually my number is in the "kid's section" 😑💀 I made my own thimble with toilet paper and tape, so it's not good at all, but I always keep an eye for thimbles, just in case am able to find the one for me

people have never understood why I love a super fine and long needle!! My favourite types of needles are ones that are so fine that I gradually end up curving then by sewing with them!

Those really fine gold eyed needles were my absolute saving grace for the year I spent embroidering my wedding dress! I do wish I'd discovered leather thimbles earlier though (my poor thumb) 😅 Picture of my dress here because I'm proud of it haha x

I tend to use the side of my finger to push the needle through, so I asked a local leatherworker for ring thimble. He fit it to my last knuckle and it took him about 3 minutes to make 👌

H ! And be sure to pack silica gel packets with needles so they do not rust. Don't poke them into paper. Paper rusts the needles. Use fabric. I like those little styrene boxes that snap shut. You can see everything in the box and they stay closed. They are however getting hard to find. Upgrade tools constantly.

I make my own thimbles from chamois leather like the ones Bernadette Banner uses. I traced around my finger, added 2mm and stretched the leather to fit after sewing. I'm on my second one now after I wore out my first one nearly a year after making it.

something I did when I needed good sewing supplies for cheap: literally look up 'vintage sewing kit' on like Facebook marketplace because these grandmas that cant sew anymore have really nice stashes that come complete with nice old sewing thread of every color, sewing needles of every size, one that I got even came with a collection of really cool wooden buttons.
