As a former server you’re just being sensitive. There’s being rude and then there’s being informal. Like the only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was when I’d greet someone and they’d ignore it and launch into whatever they’re wanting. But if I ask what you want just tell me what you want.

Why do I need to be extra polite to someone who’s literally paid to write down what I want to eat and bring it to me???? Please is for someone who doesn’t have to do that like a friend or sibling

I don’t think please is as important anymore as long as you’re tone is polite. Saying thank you is more important. When the server starts the conversation by asking for your order, answering them without including the word please isn’t rude in my opinion. Showing gratitude for the food and service is important but saying please nowadays seems quite formal and therefore less friendly actually.

As an American it’s always bothered me when other Americans order food like that as well. Just seems rude

american servers don’t find it rude actually :) only in other countries is it considered rude to not use “may i…” “please” “thank you” etc. when ordering food. i think it’s because we don’t care for formalities when getting food. why would i ask “can i” or “may i” when the answer is obviously yes? i was actually taught to say “i’ll have the ___” when ordering because it’s more assertive than asking. assertiveness ≠ rudeness

Guys we’re paying for the food though😭 “Can I please have” would make sense if it was free or borrowing. Theres nothing wrong with saying can I have but it’s not like it’s wrong to say what you’ll be getting. It’s not a question it’s a order
