@wyattmccubbin: The Songwriter Artist: Volume Three Steve Earle All credibility is lost if there is a series called “The Songwriter Artist” & Steve Earle is not included. He is on the Mount Rushmore of this.. Copperhead Road was one of the first songs I ever learned to play & Tennessee Blues was on the first “CD” I ever recorded at a home studio in Leesburg, Ohio. Those two songs were the ones that led me down the road of diving headfirst into the incredible catalog of Steve Earle. He rolled into Guitar Town as a 19 year old hitch hiker from Houston with a simple goal of finding Guy Clark.. He accomplished that mission in two days & soon became one of the freshest faces in the Nashville songwriting community. It took another 12 years for his life changing album, Guitar Town, to come out & bring a whole new generation of hitch hikers to town looking for him. His songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless & so many more. He has won three Grammy awards (one of which for my personal favorite album of his, Washington Square Serenade). & he is one of the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry. One huge highlight in my life was getting to write a song with Steve (& Erik Dylan) several years ago.. That voice memo is a collectors item to me. What a day.. In my opinion the mark of a great song is when someone wants to sit on their couch at midnight & sing it when no one is watching or listening.. “Goodbye” is one of those songs to me. Thank you for writin’ & singin’ this & countless other masterpieces, Steve. #SteveEarle
