@darklens_30: 🏂❄️ What looked like a normal day on the mountain nearly turned into a fatal accident in a matter of seconds. In March 2023, snowboarder Ian Steger was riding through deep powder near Mount Baker Ski Area when he suddenly plunged headfirst into a hidden tree well — a dangerous pocket of loose snow that forms around the base of trees. Buried upside down beneath nearly six feet of snow, Steger was unable to move or free himself. With his head trapped below the surface, every passing second became a fight for survival. At the same time, skier Francis Zuber was making his way through the backcountry with a friend when he noticed something unusual sticking out of the snow — the bright underside of a snowboard. Zuber later said he nearly skied right past it. Realizing someone was trapped underneath, he immediately rushed over and began digging frantically through the deep snow. GoPro footage captured the intense rescue as he first cleared an airway around Steger’s face before continuing to dig him out completely. Steger survived, but later admitted he believed he was going to die. Unable to move and buried upside down, he had no way of escaping on his own. The incident drew widespread attention because it highlights one of the lesser-known dangers of skiing and snowboarding. Tree wells can trap victims in seconds, causing disorientation and a deadly condition known as snow immersion suffocation. Without Zuber noticing that small flash of red in the snow, the outcome could have been very different. ❓Do you think you would have spotted the snowboard before it was too late? 🎥 Follow @darklens_30 for more dark true crime & shocking history like this. #viral #reels #explore #Snowboarding #SurvivalStory
