I had a rooster when I had chickens who was very sweet. He grew his comb and spurs, crowed in the morning, but also nested with the hens and sat eggs. One day we stopped hearing him crow altogether and instead heard him making egg laying sounds with the hens- even though he didn’t lay eggs. The hens accepted him as another hen like it was the most natural thing in the world.
