As a server if your child is capable of ordering for themselves by all means let them but also just be aware of your surroundings. 7 o’clock on a Friday night at a busy restaurant may not be the best place to practice.

I work part time at a food place. between the two jobs I have, I work 70 hrs. I’m exhausted, underpaid and in my mid 30’s with chronic pain. whenever little kids come in and order or pick up an order for their designated adult, it makes me smile and I’m always gentle/patient with them. it literally takes no effort. plus, it’s great for kids to learn how to do things themselves and how to communicate with service workers. this is great!

As a restaurant manager and one who has run drive-through’s before, this is classic amazing parenting we have adults that take longer to order their food so waiting for a little kid who’s exerting their independence and learning lessons at the same time plus the cuteness and their voice keep going, mama keep going

As a server, parents have always told me how they appreciate me encouraging and talking to their children instead of acting like they’re not there. They are tiny humans, but they are also learning and experiencing life too!
