It’s not that complicated. If a king names an heir, the crown passes to that heir. King Viserys named Rhaenyra his heir, and he never revoked that decision. Simply putting on a crown and proclaiming yourself king doesn’t make you the rightful ruler. It makes you a pretender. That’s exactly what Aegon II was. A pretender, an usurper, and a traitor to his king’s declared succession.

Well, Corlys said that because he wanted the Velaryon name remembered in history. He had a specific legacy he wanted to leave behind. Rhaenyra, on the other hand, just wanted her throne. She couldn't keep it herself, but her son did. Aegon III inherited it as Rhaenyra's heir and is literally introduced as Rhaenyra's son. I don't think she would've been upset that her son got to rule instead of her, or that her name wasn't officially listed. In the end, her bloodline inherited the throne through Aegon III anyway, that's a better outcome than ruling for a year and then leaving no heirs behind.😂
