@scam.of.the.earth: Card & Bank Fraud Awareness Your bank will never ask you to move money to a "safe account." If you take one thing away from this post, make it that. Bank and card fraud is evolving fast, and the scams getting the most traction right now rely less on stolen card numbers and more on manipulation. A few patterns worth knowing: Card-not-present fraud: Your physical card never leaves your wallet, but your details are used online or over the phone. Often sourced from data breaches, phishing emails, or skimming devices on ATMs and card readers. Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud: You're tricked into transferring money yourself, believing it's going somewhere legitimate. This now accounts for a huge share of UK fraud losses and is harder to reverse because you authorised the payment. Impersonation scams: Fraudsters pose as your bank's fraud team, often using spoofed numbers that show your real bank's name on caller ID. They create urgency: "we've detected suspicious activity, you need to move your funds now." A few protective habits: Hang up and call your bank back using the number on your card, never one given to you on a call. Banks will never ask for your full PIN or to move money to "protect" it. Check statements regularly for small, unfamiliar transactions, fraudsters often test cards with tiny amounts first. Enable transaction alerts so you're notified in real time. If you've become a victim to fraud in the UK, report it to Report Fraud (0300 123 2040) and contact your bank immediately. Awareness is still the best defence.
