During the Ottoman era, there were no modern Hajj packages, hotels, air travel, or visa fees as we know them today, which is why some people claim Hajj cost “$0.”
However, this does not mean that Hajj was completely free. Pilgrims still had to pay for their travel, food, accommodation, and caravan expenses.
Today, the cost of Hajj includes visas, transportation, accommodation, security, and many other modern services, which makes it much more expensive.
