This is why I prefer the game more. The mc is an actual Navi who was taken at a young age from their people, it actually tells the story from the oppressed point of view and still has a way to introduce the world to the audience

It would have been WAY more poignant if Neytiri had been Toruk Makto, since it was HER grandfather’s grandfather who tamed one for the first time. She would be saving her own people!

Lucas is voiced by Zach Tyler Eisen who also voices Aang in Avatar the Last Airbender, so Ant Bully is a better Avatar than Avatar and has the actual Avatar.

God, when Jake takes over and makes the chief his translator?!?!?! I love the movie, but jeez. Couldn’t he have just rallied with Neytiri and the new chief (idk his name) and let them lead with his assistance? He has inside knowledge of how humans fight, but they know the land. They should be leading, not him

Jake was not the best, but has a soldier and more intelligent human he had better tactics when it came to warfare. He lead them because he knew the strengths of the humans and knew it was possible to win. The navi would be much more cautious facing an unknown advanced threat. Yawe chose Jake to take big red cos that’s the only way the navi would follow him. And he had a Faustian spirit that is more unique to humans to go for that crazy play

I don’t think the avatar criticism is valid. Maybe if you look at it only as a metaphor for real world politics, but it is first and foremost a story and a film. Obviously the main character will be special in some way and play a pivotal role

Completely disagree with the avatar take and it is not slop by far. Jake learnt their language, their culture, learnt to trust and beg for their Goddess help, he becomes one of them fully, yes he has human tendencies but he is Navi now. John smith did none of that except for fall in love.

As a big avatar fan i agree, and this was a big mistake on James Cameron's end. His whole thing being making something new and different and better falls into water because of this.

Jake Sully doesn’t become “the best of the Na’Vi,” he becomes the only one on the Na’Vi’s side who truly understands the stakes, because he saw firsthand what humans did to Earth. They bring this theme back in the second film with Payakan and the Tulkun.
