@uncover.quantum: At 22, Alexandra Elbakyan built Sci-Hub, a controversial shadow library that changed how millions of people access scientific research. What started in 2011 as a way around expensive journal paywalls grew into one of the largest archives of academic papers online. Sci-Hub has been called a pirate library because it gives free access to paywalled papers, often without publisher permission. A 2018 eLife study found that Sci-Hub covered 85.1% of toll access journal articles at the time, showing how massive its reach had already become. Now the story has entered the AI era. Sci-Hub has reportedly launched Sci-Bot, an experimental AI research assistant that can answer questions using papers from its archive, though early reports say it still has limits with newer research and deeper follow-up questions. Publishers see Sci-Hub as copyright infringement, and Elsevier previously won a major damages case against the site. Supporters see it as a rebellion against a system where scientific knowledge is often locked behind expensive paywalls.

No scientific research papers should cost money to read. this is one of the most insane pieces of late stage capitalism I've ever come across.

So if we are letting an AI take over the world so far this one is the pick. I'll take the one fed scientific data over the others

When companies like Elsvier get paid the writer of the paper gets nothing. If it is publicly funded research they should not be allowed to charge for it.

Public money funded the research- the papers should therefore also be public.

Scientific papers and research should not be paywall. It should be public knowledge. Taxpayers pay for the research, over 95% of it. Taxpayers should have free access to it.

You should not have to pay for information and research, it should be shared with the world for the betterment of everyone.
