"Go, go, go! Cheers buddy, follow that police officer." A suspect fleeing armed police didn’t stand a chance – after a passing motorist picked them up and helped chase him down. Kent police have praised the good samaritan who pulled over and told officers, “get in the back”, after seeing them running along a road in Thanet on 16 June. The armed officers were responding to reports of a serious assault. After attending a property on High Street, a wanted man managed to evade officers and fled on foot towards Tivoli Road. Bodycam footage shows the moment a man in a black van slows at a roundabout and tells officers he will give them a ride. After the officer jumps in, he tells the driver: "Go, go, go! Cheers buddy, follow that police officer." He then adds: "Don't crash." The officers are then able to catch up with the fleeing suspect. The driver later tells the officers he was “glad to be of service” as one shakes his hand. Armed Policing Superintendent Will Lay said: "A violent offender who was being relentlessly pursued, and was seeking to evade capture, came close to losing patrols in a nearby park. "However, our armed officers remained committed. Thanks to the quick and selfless actions of this responsible and public-spirited driver, officers were able to apprehend the dangerous individual. "The successful arrest may not have been possible without the member of the public and his vehicle. "He should feel proud of his contribution to keeping his community safe, and we are truly grateful for his assistance." #5news #thanet #policechase
