industrial smog/soot affecting the atmospheric colors mixed with near sightedness (and removing their glasses while working) is exactly how I imagine the impressionists experienced the world.

He was a very gifted painter, and could do realism if he wanted to (pictured below) most of those though are from when he had developed cataracts so he painted what he saw, but the idea of Impressionism was to capture the "vibe" and aesthetic of essentially non important moments

He was losing his eyesight in his later years which can be seen in the progression of his works. But it is his style and artistic interpretation. He and Renoir painted side by side the same scenes and both artists painted in their respective styles

That is what you see if you squint your eyes. I used to do a lot of squinting as a child and my husband shared with me that he did the same as a child. How many of you squinted trying to see the world in a different way.
