@uglytruthofcoparenting: One of the hardest moments in a high-conflict co-parenting situation is realizing your child knows things they should never have been told. Most healthy parents struggle to even imagine talking negatively about the other parent to a child. That’s why so many moms miss the signs at first. They assume, “Surely nobody would do that.” But high-conflict people often don’t think the same way you do. The first time you hear your child repeat adult conversations, financial worries, court details, relationship issues, or criticism about you, it can feel like the floor drops out from underneath you. Your jaw hits the floor. Your heart sinks into your stomach. And suddenly all those strange comments, worries, people-pleasing behaviors, anxiety, loyalty conflicts, and transition day meltdowns start making sense. If you’re following this page, chances are your intuition has already been trying to tell you something. Maybe your child comes home saying things that don’t sound age-appropriate. Maybe they’re carrying responsibilities that don’t belong to them. Maybe they seem afraid to disappoint the other parent. Maybe they’re trying to protect everyone’s feelings while carrying burdens no child should have to carry. This isn’t something to ignore. And it isn’t something your child can simply “get over.” Children deserve to be children. Inside The Next Chapter, I teach parents how to recognize these patterns, navigate difficult transition days, respond without making the situation worse, and help remove some of the emotional weight being placed on their children. Because when one adult chooses to treat a child like an adult, the other parent needs a strategy to help protect them. If this sounds familiar, comment LIGHTHOUSE in the DMs and I’ll send you information about The Next Chapter. Know better. Be better. #HighConflictCoparenting #ParentalAlienation #DivorceSupport #CoparentingHelp #SingleMomSupport

My son comes to me and tells me what his dad says… I’ve definitely had to explain some interesting things without bashing his dad- thank god I’m good at that.

The parental alienation I hate is telling my son what they are going to do while he is at my house. I used to cave on occasion because I felt bad he was missing things but that is on his dad not on me. Stop alienating me from him by mentioning what he’s missing

My ex has done this with our three kids for 7 or 8 years, and at this point he doesn’t even have to ask them anymore. When they were little, they learned pretty quickly what they were and weren’t supposed to tell me. There were times they told me they wouldn’t get a toy or get to do something fun if they told me something, and sometimes he actually followed through with it. I’ve never kept them from their dad because I’ve always believed whatever happened between him and me should stay between the adults. But over the years I became the “bad” or strict parent while he would undo consequences I gave them, even for things like serious school issues. His ex was even allowed to talk badly about me around my kids, despite never meeting me, and it got to the point where my kids couldn’t even mention or call me over there without it causing problems between them. Now they’re 15, 13, and 11, and I can see how much all of it has affected my relationship with them and even the way they speak to and respect me. They have therapists, but they won’t talk about this stuff with them either. I honestly don’t know how you’re supposed to co-parent with someone who has spent years working against you instead of with you.
