@sbsnews_au: US President Donald Trump has said the Strait of Hormuz will be "open toll-free” later this week as part of a peace deal with Iran. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, Trump said “good things are happening” after the long-awaited deal with Iran was announced, adding: “The ships are starting to move nicely ... oil is starting to go and the prices are coming down rapidly.” Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, also confirmed that an immediate and permanent end to the war would begin shortly, with the blockade of the strait to end afterwards. The memorandum, which Trump says states “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon”, is expected to be signed on Friday in Switzerland. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow shipping corridor through which around one-fifth of the world’s oil supply normally passes. Its blockade — caused by the war in the Middle East — sent oil prices soaring across the globe.
