my family is MAGA. They are racist AF. More racist than you even think. Some of them don't like Juneteenth because they want black people to still be slaves. Some of them don't like Juneteenth because it reminds them of their own shame. Some of them don't like it because it centers black people, and they can't stand not being the center of attention and feeling "the most important" at all times. These are the real reasons, if you really want to know.

so as a white person on the left I'll tell you with family members who are very much to be far right. they hate it because they cannot colonize it. if you look up for instance Cinco de Mayo, they've been able to colonize it and characterize it whether that's wearing sombreros or going and getting a margarita. Juneteenth they can't put it into a characterization without being obviously racist and they can't colonize it and break out whatever they think is a stereotypical race-based food for black people, without clearly being racist. they've gotten away with it for Cinco de Mayo they can't get away with it for Juneteenth

There need to be reparations! Juneteenth needs to be a real celebration with steps to lift up and platform the black voices that led the charge to end slavery.

Having a holiday where Black people are actually celebrated is the problem. There isn’t a way to get past it. February is Black History Month, but you can hide that with Valentine’s Day. You cannot hide Juneteenth. Because the only thing you can cover that up with is pride month. And they hate the LGBTQ plus community more than they hate blacks.

my humble opinion:so they hate celebrating as of today bc it gives hope as for the future Juneteenth, slavery, and civil rights are being erased. dei, banning books and voting rights are all currently being changed. do when our grandkids get an education all of black history and Puerto Rican history will have been erased and by then white ppl will have already started modern slavery.

I will openly admit I did not know about Juneteenth until it became a national holiday. I was not taught about it in school. When it was recognized as a national holiday, I didn’t at the time no exactly what was going on, but as I gathered information about it, I learned the importance and the significance of it. I have also realized that there are only two months out of the year that everyone always has a problem with what is being talked about that is the month of June whether it’s regards to Juneteenth or pride or Black History Month in February. Honestly, it is sad that most of black history is crammed into one month and not just talked about all year long and February be a celebration of many of the milestones from black history and those who helped create it.

A 79-year-old white lady that I go to church with asked me what Juneteenth was about Sunday. She said she heard that there was different stories that some people were lying. So I told her exactly what it was about. She said, that's what I heard, but I heard it was a lie. I said, no, it's the truth.I used to live in Texas for 2 yrs in early 90s and we celebrated it back then. (in Raleigh NC now this does not surprise me)

I know you're not talking to me. I'm actually excited about Juneteenth. Even though General Gordon Granger was racist. I am related to him. He was an abolitionist, but also a pragmatic, military bureaucrat. His interests had to appear somewhat neutral under a white man's lens. The war had changed his views to be more liberal towards the newly freed people.

Thank you for those stats. I am pretty confident that people in my sphere of influence don’t support Trump, but I will be vigilant for any that may and ask them what their issues with Juneteenth is. I support it, Black History month and feel we should do more. 🙏🏻

It's more traditional, in the US, to celebrate a legal document, than it is to actually follow through on those documents to deliver real, substantive change. Can't we just get a trophy for *starting* the race? Do we really need to finish too? 😅

Because it's BLACK celebration. They absolutely loath seeing us celebrate, be joyful, etc. This is tiring.

so his argument is about it being on the wrong date 🤦🏾‍♀️... we celebrate when it was announced in Texas. first, why does he care about what we do? second, why isn't he arguing about Christmas? it's not on the right date
