I think you’re right. I had a similar thought about this and the last season of euphoria the way that it’s supposed to take place in like a modern time, but they had all these vintage TVs in the situation which are supposed to represent a fixed perception of time and setting

I like the theory, it fits well. however I think it makes the fill less scarey not more. The fear of the film is that this is a normal boy, it could be anyone, lots of men resonate with him and struggle to see him as the villain, even though his wish and how he treats Nicky really is selfish and narcissistic.
