Watch AND READ CAPTION🚩🚩🚩🚩Sometimes the most challenging aspect of being a therapist isn’t *not* knowing what to say. But knowing and not saying it. It is our job to slow down. To help the clients come to their own realizations. Here’s what I would do as a somatic trained therapist after this conversation:💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡 “It was painful for you to say that wasn’t it?” /-therapist -wait for response. “Could you tell me what part was most painful? -therapist -wait for response “What in your body told you that that part was the most painful?”-therapist -wait for response. In this example lets say the client wasn’t able to identify in their body what told them and rather said something like… “I dont know, i just know its sad to not want to get involved with people anymore.” I would then ask- “How do you know it’s sad? What in your body told you youre feeling sad?” I might ask the client what the difference between grief and sadness is to them? I might point out that when they said “I can never really recover” they made eye contact again with me. And ask, what was that like to tell me? What is like for you right now to hear it again? You see how i am titrating back and forth between present moment and the story- constantly asking the client to explore their body and what it is telling them. I might ask the client to pick up their own physical cues as well as point out the ones i noticed (without interpretation, but asking so they can tell me what it means) Like, “why do you think you threw your arms up when you said “it hurts too much” This is one example of what a therapy session may look like. I love doing these to show that they’re not so scary and to normalize the process of talking with someone as well as give insight into how some somatic therapists work! #somatic #somatictherapy #mentalhealth
