@afrikanhairgod: We all contribute to our negative experiences around natural hair.... That's why it's important to do the work and pour into each other
Texturism is sadly one of the MANY things wrong with the Pop the Ballon show.

I know personally that Black men experience Texturism. Especially boys in middle and high school.

It was crazy. I felt like his hair just needed a cut that framed his face better, but the length and texture were fine 🥺

I’m happy you pointed this out because I completely ignored this fact. I needed that reality check!

The men & women on the show are as bad as each other. The women also pop on the men with locs and lighter skin tones

I dont think anything was wrong with hair. The style was more work/ church/shopping or low hang out with friends. I think for a date night/dating show, both men and women are expected to look glam up. The dress didn't suit his skin colour either. The look was giving mid rather than slightly glam. I do think people are overreacting to her hair. For a dating show, yes go all out and style the hair. Low tired back bun is a nice look for work. But on the weekend we let our hair down.
I was watching and thought the same about the curly hair guy.

I think for that man it was his hair and skin complexion idc what anyone says there was colorism involved too

I think it was colorism with him too. If he was light bright with the same texture they would have been more accepting.

I feel like the women felt he was feminine because he had his hair down and with the black woman, I think the men want their gf to wear their natural hair but for the show they want a “baddie”

episode? The entire thing consists of texturism and colorism. You guys complain about it and still pay mind to it and watch it. It’s actually pathetic

I was so confused by both of those episode clips. Like for the dude is that not the texture that they crave. Or did they see that on him as too fem and his “delicate “ features. He kinda gave MJ

the clips about the him shed a light on the politics of gender presentation for Black men specifically. Dodging texturism, while still fitting into masculine contexts is a line Black men must toe constantly.
