I don't see how you didn't put two screws in every panel before you got off the roof. No way in the world am I leaving a unit open when it's pouring rain. at minimum over the blower/VFD and the electrical panel

You’re on a roof. You can see the sky for miles brother. You knew that storm was coming and decided to not put a couple screws in each panel and just dipped off the roof lol how much water ended up in that return too? That’s crazy brother. I do hvac in Florida. Been in this situation a few dozen times. Never left the unit open lol

This is why I have the Supco umbrella, no shot am I leaving that open to the rain. I would have at least thrown panels on top..

I don’t play around lightning anymore! I was shocked by lightning three times in an afternoon pulling and acid washing an evap coil in north Lauderdale. The lightning was hitting outside and traveling through ground.
