I think it’s because EVERYTHING is so orange now. I used to wear neutral undertone foundation and now I have to buy cool toned. I’m not even pale. MAC has several colors that used to be cool toned or neutral and have reformulated them to be warm but kept the name. I truly believe that most people are neutral and lean warm or cool rather than being purely one or the other

TRULY. Pale =/cool toned. I can swatch a product and acknowledge it looks orange, but on my face it’s suddenly a neutral.

neutral here 🙋♀️I completely agree. I think it has to do with wanting to feel special for being in a "niche" group that has gotten (barely enough) more attention in the cosmetics world as of late.

I think more people are neutral or olive then they realize. and companies just dont make those shades especially at the drugstore. I assume those pigments are more expensive

My makeup from 2017… I was using Tarte, Estée Lauder, Anastasia Beverly Hills, KVD, Benefit… everything that was popular at the time. I cannot recreate this look now with the same brands. The formulas have changed. Everything is orange. I looked so perfectly neutral. So yeah I’m absolutely in a skin tone crisis because I don’t think it me, it’s the mf makeup.

when youre actually cool toned, most "cool" toned products turn warm on you. thats why its so hard for someone like me who is cool and very fair to find things that dont pull warm on me

I thought I was cool toned because “everything pulled orange” on me… then I tried a true lilac and it actually looked lilac and didn’t compliment my skin as much as I hoped. Turns out I’m a true neutral with the slightest olive undertone! Not cool toned at all

In 2016, everyone was warm toned and wearing orange bronzer. Now it’s all about the cool tones. I wish people didn’t think that color theory was a scam, because we can still do the same trendy makeup looks (latte, strawberry, clean girl, even 2016 throwback)—we just need different tones to make it look right on our faces.
