What we have witnessed over the last decade is more of home grown economic mismanagement.But whatever one thinks of Arkebe's redevelopment model, it at least put jobs at the center. It generated so much small business activity that Arkebe Souq became part of the city's vocabulary, while today jobs are afterthought, a passing remark made after the demolition plans are unveiled and have wrecked livelihoods.
