While listening to this, I thought to myself. “That is so harsh on the wicked, thankfully I’m not among them.” Without even realizing it I immediately placed myself among the righteous/godly. But then I stopped and questioned myself, what have I done to claim that place? I have strayed from the Lord before. I still struggle with sin. Even though I am actively trying to strengthen my faith and walk closer with Him, I am far from perfect. I can still hurt others and myself. I can still make mistakes and fall short. The difference now is that I want to be aware of those things, repent of them, and try not to repeat them. What surprised me most was the sorrow I felt for the wicked. I do not want to be counted among them, yet when I think about their judgment, my heart grieves for them. Rather than feeling satisfaction at their punishment, I feel compassion. Perhaps that sorrow is a reminder that God’s heart is not only just, but also merciful. He takes no pleasure in people being lost, and neither should we.
