If EFCC action is purely about safeguarding public funds, then why wait until barely days before a governorship election to freeze a state’s account? If the concern is suspicious movement of funds, are similar measures being taken against every state under investigation, regardless of the party in power? Would the same action have been taken if this were an APC-controlled state that had just concluded an election in the South-West? These are legitimate questions that deserve answers because institutions earn public trust through consistency, not selective enforcement. No one should be above investigation, but no anti-corruption agency should create room for Nigerians to question its neutrality. Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done. Playing politics with state institutions weakens democracy. If there is evidence, let due process take its course. If not, actions that appear politically timed will continue to fuel suspicion.
