The reason for the carpet in the garage is a part of NZs healthy homes standards for new builds . It ensures insulation when there isn’t any underfloor instillation. This type of carpet is made from industrial grade polypropylene so in a very very loose way it is carpet - but very course to the touch.

It’s not regular indoor carpet. It’s garage carpet 😅

The garage carpet will be marine grade carpet, so it can get wet, similar to carpet in boats - it helps with the cold transfer vs if you had just a plain concrete floor, it gets so cold here that this helps as well keeping the floor looking tidier

I Would recommend North Canterbury as a lifestyle option, you can get land and also close to the beach! Carpeted garage is a common thing for new homes, it seems weird at first but wouldn’t go without now!
