I would like to perform the dombra piece "The Lament of the Samuryk Bird" by Eshmat. This piece is based on an old legend about the mythical Samuryk bird. According to the story, every year the bird raises a chick. Whenever it flies far away to find food and returns, it discovers that a snake—sometimes described as a dragon—has devoured its young. This tragedy repeats itself year after year. The piece portrays the sorrow and anxiety of the Samuryk bird as it rushes back, worrying: "Is my chick safe? What has happened to it?" Because of this, the composition became known as "The Lament of the Samuryk." There is another interpretation as well. When the poet Tanjarik was imprisoned, people compared themselves to the Samuryk bird, grieving and longing for their lost child. They waited for the poet's return with the same pain and concern. Therefore, the piece was also associated with that sorrow and came to be known by the same name. There are many different stories about the origin of this composition, and I cannot say with certainty which one is the true source. Nevertheless, I would like to perform it for you as best I can. I previously played this piece in 2002 at the Künis District Theatre during the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of our ancestor Tanjarik. Please listen to the piece, and if you enjoy it, don't forget to press the plus button on the right and follow the channel. Enjoy.
