I think there's a wider problem with the DWP in terms of their awareness of the world of work itself. For context, I have a chronic condition that affects my physical and mental ability. The DWP has deemed me able to work with limited capacity. So I'm still expected to look for work but not at the same level as the average person. Every single paid job I've had, I've been let go because my condition has prevented me from keeping up with my workload even with reasonable adjustments in place. Despite this, and despite being aware of my circumstances, the DWP has done absolutely nothing to support my employers to keep me in work nor have they reconsidered whether I am actually capable of working. This leaves me in a limbo where I'm expecting to look for appropriate employment where no such employment is actually available to me. As you can imagine, both the lack of understanding from the DWP and the degrading process of looking for work, knowing most employers will reject me one way or another makes me extremely reluctant to engage with the system at all.

People who rely on that support would lose income, which means they’d spend less on essentials like food, rent, and services. That would hurt local businesses—fewer customers, less revenue—so they’d struggle to stay afloat. And it’s not just businesses—it would also put more pressure on local services and healthcare, which might end up costing even more in the long run. So, in a way, welfare is a kind of safety net that supports the entire economy.

PIP does not discourage people from working, I worked for 10 years with PIP. I would give up any amount of money to have my health back.

a lot are elderly people who cant work becasue of age related disabilities but havnt reached the increased retirement age yet.

So the short answer is: the UK is not necessarily becoming “sicker” in every sense, but more people are living with long-term physical and mental health conditions than in previous generations. That is one of the biggest challenges facing the country today.

Well I have just been medically retired with full pension at 46 because I can’t work anymore in my 9-5 that means I can no longer take any job that’s similar legally by HMRCs own rules. This is rubbish what she’s saying. I worked all my life up to last year for 28 years. I would still be working if I was not chronically ill

there are also lots of sites that tell people exactly what to say and how to act to claim pip for things that can't be proven by diagnosis test e.g blood work x-ray MRI ect it took of peoples words to there Dr but if they do there research and put on a act they get it you shouldn't be able to claim sickness benefits without actual prove thru test

Thing is i know many people who get full benefits and are not sick, 1 girl i know had 1 fit at 4 and was suspected as epileptic, 40 years later still on benefits as epileptic and she is fine. wasn't even proved epilepsy.
