While passing by the land of Ninawa (Karbala) on his way to the Battle of Siffin, the Imam stopped by the banks of the Euphrates. His companion narrates that Imam Ali (AS) began to weep and called out, "O Abu 'Abdullah! Be patient by the banks of the Euphrates." When asked why he was addressing his son Husayn (AS) in his absence, the Imam shared a heart-wrenching memory: He once entered the presence of the Prophet Muhammad )ﷺ( and found him in tears.
