The experience I’ve had with LPG vs Petrol you have to fill up LPG twice as much so your paying the same amount anyway.

Because it uses 15 L per hundred which is equivalent to probably the same as using fuel cause most cars are now 8 L per hundred

Fuel got cheap and people moved on, especially to diesels. LPG is good when it's working but can be very problematic

it was stupid back then, net zero, now we are using more gas, but mainly in vic, fuel mobs can't charge as much, cause most of vic gas comes from the gas works near Port Campbell.

Imported highly efficient diesel and petrol cars had already far eclipsed Ford and Holden on the market in sales. Both Ford and Holden tried (but way too late) to switch their lineup to match what was topping sales. Ford whacked a Rover engine in the Territory and Holden started going hard on imported diesel cars. LPG and especially Ford's ECOLPi was mighty impressive in the mid 2010s but it was just too late. People as a whole were moving towards diesel and modern eco engines.

they were mostly only purchased as taxis. Then Toyota introduced the Hybrid Camry, far more reliable and economical than a lpg ford.

after the amount of government funding pumped into LPG, it seems crazy to think they just gave it up... all the way to 2017 Holden made dedicated LPG vehicles from the factory. quite a few manufacturers still make dedicated LPG and CNG vehicles for some markets and in some countries in south America these Gases are super subsidized.. like $1USD to fill up... being a former LPG vehicle owner myself,, it was 50% cheaper to run, 30% better for the environment and went just as well as the petrol equivalent.

I was actually looking at a couple different dedicated LPG falcons to be my first registered car a couple years ago but as I was looking all LPG pumps in my city marked out of order and petrol stations were no longer being supplied with LPG so that screwed my idea of having a dirt cheap daily driver that was super common and easy to find parts for.

Fairly simple answer…. Corporate greed. When the price of LPG increased way past 80% from petrol, there really was no benefit to convert.
