social media is a space. like a park. we do not ban children from a park simply because things like drug addicts could be there, or children could get kidnapped. no, we teach the parents how to more effectively care for their children. Parents keep an eye on what their children do, they assist them when they need help in the navigation of online spaces, and they take them home from the park when it's time to go home. the Internet should be treated similarly, as whilst harm exists (though, actually, the correlation between mental health problems and social media is rather slim according to research papers), the Internet has a lot of positives about. Just like a park. The need is not to ban social media for all children, it's to educate parents how to care for their children properly. how to look after them, like we did with parks.

as a parent I don't have a problem with my kids on social media, I monitor my kids and the government should keep there nose out.

Is it really that hard for parents to block WiFi after certain hours on certain devices? Parental controls have been available for atleast a decade now.

I'm an IT Professional and a blanket ban is just wrong. YouTube has so much valuable material for under 16s to watch covering programming, networks, computer hardware, revision videos etc. I could go on. The ban will deprive those studying for their GCSEs in computing a vital source of learning. The whole ban is just a knee jerk reaction and needs to be reconsidered.

It’s not hard, parental controls on kids phone, don’t allow them to download apps, done, end of. There’s no way around it.

Stop making phones like mini pcs/laptops and problem solved. If people wanna log on the internet make children sit at a pc/laptop

We need safer streets. That should be the priority. Kids need educated on the dangers, not a total ban.

It’s also the guilt tripping too if your kid’s friends have them you’re going to feel guilty and you don’t want your child to ostracised but if there is a blanket ban it’s much easier
