@hookdaifishing: New stretch of the Meuse. No reports, no markers — a water I'd never fished. I'd driven past this bend a few times and finally stopped to read it myself. 🎣 First hours, dead: big shads, small shads, out deep then tight to the bank — nothing. On my last casts I swapped the soft shad for a metal spinnertail. On the retrieve, a big zander locked onto it and followed it all the way to the bank — half a metre down, tracking the whole way, but never committing to a decisive hit. I cast again and again — nothing, not a flicker. A following fish is an interested fish. It just didn't like what I was offering. So I changed the question entirely: off came the metal spinnertail, on went a green 7 cm deep-crank — a hard bait with a tight, aggressive wobble to trigger a reaction strike instead of a feed. First cast, two metres off the bank, it smashed it. 💥 A kiss, a quick photo over the water, and she swam off strong. That's the whole game: explore new water, read the structure, and change your lure before you change your spot. One cast on the right bait beats a hundred on the wrong one.
