@ptaylordactyl_: When lobsters shed their shells the new one is so super thin, putting the lobster in an extremely vulnerable state. They will sit and wait until their shell hardens up enough for them to move again. They will typically seek refuge when they molt due to this, as other lobsters or sea life can easily eat them. When this happens in a trap it’s not ideal to put them in the live well, as they will get eaten by other lobsters and crushed to death. When this happens we take them home to eat instead of selling them! The shell feels a like leather, and after being cooked peels right off like paper!
