She was but a wind puff away from death; emaciated, parasite-riddled and too weak to lift her sweet head. Our team held our breath, caught her and held onto the unwavering hope that she would survive. For twenty-nine days of often sleepless nights, we held her fragile body in slings as she took her first jerky, uncertain steps toward freedom.
