And her eyes… they changed color, didn’t you see?” Giselle leaned in, serious. “I think… she might be a vampire.” Most people would have panicked or laughed it off. But Karina? Her eyes lit up, and a slow, excited smile spread across her face. Giselle blinked, confused. “Aren’t you supposed to be alarmed?!” Karina just shook her head, gaze fixed toward the library. “Giselle… you don’t get it. That’s exactly my type.”   After class, Karina walked straight to the library. The curtains were drawn, letting in only soft, diffused light — perfect for someone who avoided the sun. There Winter sat, reading an old hardcover book, posture relaxed, face calm and completely nonchalant. Karina pulled out the chair across from her and sat down, all in her usual white, bright and steady even in the dim room. “Hi,” Karina said, voice soft but confident. “I’m Karina, class president. Just wanted to make sure you’re settling in alright.” Winter didn’t look up right away. She turned the page slowly, then lifted her eyes — and for a moment, the red hue shone through clearly, unhurried and unapologetic. “I’m fine,” she replied, tone even, calm, no trace of nervousness. “No trouble so far.” Karina leaned forward slightly, fascinated, not looking away. “I noticed you don’t like bright sunlight. And your eyes… they’re very striking, especially when the light hits them.” Winter closed her book gently, resting her hands on the cover. Her expression remained neutral, but there was a quiet sharpness in her gaze. “And what of it?” she asked, not defensive, just curious. Karina smiled, warm and sincere, no fear at all. “I think it’s beautiful. Different… and exactly what I’ve always been drawn to.” Winter tilted her head slightly, studying her. “You’re not scared? Most people would be, if they guessed what I am.” Karina reached out slowly, resting her hand lightly over Winter’s cool one — no hesitation, no doubt. “Why would I be?” she said softly. “If anything… I feel like I’ve been waiting for someone like you all along. You’re perfect just as you are.” Winter stared at her for a long moment, then the corner of her lips lifted into a faint, subtle smile — still calm, still unbothered, but with a hint of interest now. “Is that so?” she said quietly. “Then I suppose you won’t mind staying a little longer.” Karina’s smile widened. “I’d stay as long as you let me.” ———— #fyp
