I hate how the women are always portrayed as gentler, kinder, happier, and overall tame, which does not make sense for people who were supposed to be villains. Not to mention that hoyo keeps chopping skirts, lore, and giving them baby faces. The men are always villainous and killed off, and everything is Dottore’s fault because they need a scapegoat. Columbina was so obviously rewritten, and so was Sandrone.

They humanized the fatui too much, sometimes people are evil for no damn reason, not everybody needs some sad backstory, deep bonds to be interesting and genshin REALLY misses that mark, but I will admit wanderer and arlecchino are my favorite but even they could have been so much greater than what they actually were

For everyone saying it isn't that deep, yes it is. Women in media have always been plot devices to men or have had their complex characters be broken down and time and time again because they are women. Genshin has shown that they won't women mortally grey or complex villain female characters when they are capable of writing good villains like dottore and they were set up to be villains but then got rewritten.

Male characters get to get complex but never female characters EXCEPT if they got traumatised by someone (for some reason always Dottore). Like I feel so bad that they didn’t explore Collei health more!! How is she not jealous of Nilou for being able to move her body like she wants?? Why is she casual about Sumeru weather when it’s well known that chronic gets worse when it’s hot. Like chronic pain sometimes makes you act AWFULL to other people bc you’re ALWAYS in pain, none stop it’s insufferable! Like yeah Amber made her kind and all but you can’t tell me she never snaps at people ?? And it wouldn’t make her a bad person, simply someone in pain ! She’s sooo important for a lot of us with chronic illnesses and they could use her as SUCH A GOOD representation, but Hoyo prefers to concentrate on g00ning material then actually developing their character. Like in her voice line often says she’s mad at the world for what happened to her as a child, but NEVER does she mention Eleazar. In the game I fell like it was introduced as « yeah she’s often tired and will probably die young » but like can we address the fact that she was in pain NONE STOP and would still go on patrol ?? Can we talk one second about how brave she is for that ??
