You missed the part and this may just be an army thing, but if you snapped to attention for the national anthem, you’re supposed to salute the flag not just stand at attention

Federal law explicitly grants veterans the right to render a military hand-salute when the national anthem is being played.As outlined in 36 U.S. Code § 301, when the national anthem is played and the flag is displayed:“members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform”.

I'm retired Air Force, and have been trucking for the last 10 years. All of my trucking friends and I flip each other off whenever we pass by in the opposite direction too. It's even funnier when a POV driver nearby thinks we're flipping them off for something and not our friend who is going the other way
